Jean Rodeman

Velma Jean Rodeman, 67, of Fort Myers, Florida and Kokomo, Indiana died at 8:48 am Sunday, September 30, 2007 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born May 3, 1940 in Clinton, Indiana to Frank and Etta (McFann) Wile. On June 17, 1967, she married Donald Wayne Rodeman at University Lutheran Church in West Lafayette, Indiana officiated by Pastor R.F.Rehmer.

Known as Jean by all, she achieved a degree in Interior Design from the Chicago School of Design and degrees in Supervision and Management from Indiana University Kokomo and Purdue University. After their retirement, Jean and Don moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida but kept their home in Kokomo for frequent trips to Indiana. She was President of the Jasmine Pointe 3 Home Owners Association and their Recreation Association.

Jean was a highly active member of the community especially the arts, holding appointments with the Indiana Arts Commission, Kokomo Arts Commission, and Chair of the Michigan "Art Train in Indiana". She was a certified master gardener, accomplished cook and member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a 6-year survivor of breast cancer when diagnosed with lung and bone cancers. While undergoing radiation treatments, she started a Bead to Beat Cancer project to benefit the American Cancer Society. Jean was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Kokomo and Saint Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Myers. She also enjoyed world travel, interior design projects, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Donald Wayne Rodeman, Fort Myers; son John Dallas Rodeman and wife Lucy; grandchildren Kord Austin Rodeman & Cale Thomas Rodeman of Phoenix; daughter Suzanne Lee Rodeman and fiancé Alan Donnelly of Chicago.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd, East, Kokomo, with Pastors William Allison and Barry Akers officiating. Friends are invited to call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. A private burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society of Kokomo, Indiana.
